What does it take to finish the race?

I think Derek Redmond’s 1992 400 meter Olympic fall and finish, to a standing ovation, says it all – almost.

*A determination to finish the race, in spite of all that may go wrong.

*Someone with whom to finish the race – someone who will not take “no” for an answer – someone who loves you and whom you love.

I think Eric Littell’s 440m in the 1924 Olympics, completes the answer

*Knowing why and for whom you run.

  1. Chariots of Fire is my favorite movie (apart from our own home movies). My favorite line/scene is when Eric is sitting in the stands with his trainer/friend and they are watching the race he would have run if he had agreed to run on Sunday. The trainer looks at him and asks, “Any regrets?” Littell responds, “Regrets? Aye….But no doubts!”
