Self-diagnosis

November 24, 2007

We watched the evening news on Thanksgiving Day and heard the news anchors try to prepare viewers for what they would face early Friday morning at the malls. I turned to Ruthe and said,

You would have to be crazy to go out shopping before dawn.

Self-diagnosis is sometimes accurate.

At 5:50am, Friday morning, we were walking through the doors of Woodlands Hills Mall in Tulsa. Here’s how it happened.

After the news on Thursday night, Ruthe pointed out several “bargains” in the ads, and suggested we could complete our Christmas shopping in a couple of hours. I said,

let’s do it.

We met a store manager who was an actor in the movies, met Jesus at a Crusade, traveled the world with the evangelist, married a woman who was attending Bible College in Tulsa, and is settled down to raise a family. Wonderful conversation at 6:15am.

We ate a bagel at a little cafe in the mall, and got into a conversation about Jesus and Christmas with a young woman and her mother. Great conversation at 7:30a.

By 8:30am, we were leaving the mall, fighting traffic, mission accomplished, feeling good.

Yep, you have to be crazy to go out shopping before dawn.
