Does the fact that Mitt Romney is a Mormon really matter?

Some say no – after all, we are not voting on “pastor-in-chief” but “commander-in-chief.” After all, people worried about John Kennedy’s catholicism – would he take his orders from the Pope or the Constitution and American people? It really does not matter what a candidate’s religious beliefs are.

I beg to differ. It does matter.

A leader’s world-view and life-view affects everything. Unlike Kennedy (not the best example of a committed Catholic), Romney is a committed and practicing Mormon. It is right and necessary to ask what his views are, and how they would affect his decisions as president.

Great comment and blog. I feel like, as a conservative, the pickings are slim so far. I am not fond of how far many of the Republican candidates have swung towards the left (Rudy/abortion) not to mention how many can’t seem to stay married to one woman. I have been struggling with Romney being Mormon vs. his squeaky clean “morality record”. I appreciate the blog and insight.

I agree, its a huge issue. Electing him President would give the world the idea that America somehow supports that belief system. This may encourage others to engage in that belief system…..and have terrible consequences for them on Judgement Day
