“It’s All About Me”

June 4, 2007

Nietzsche called it “the will to power.”

The Bible calls it pride. It is our most basic human drive. It is the first sin – “you can be like God.” It’s almost irresistible: we want to be God.

We need to control our own lives and the lives of others.

It is the chief cause in marriage conflict and decline – “my way!”

It is at the root of the epidemic of church conflict – “whose in charge.”

It is the heart of racial conflict – crime – war.

It is also very subtle – I need others to help me see it in myself. I’m blind to it in myself.

Life is all about me – what I want.

On the other hand, the essence of faith is surrender – humility – gratitude – submission.

For a sickening look at the will to power, see Al Mohler’s blog, “The Revenge of Conscience.”

Caution – this is not for the faint-hearted, but it is extremely important!
